The 2015 International Conference on Language Education and Studies at Wenzao aims to serve as the continuity of the 2014 AILA theme of “one world, many languages” to provide a forum to engage those interested in the theme from different disciplines for cross-disciplinary academic dialogues. One world, as a result of globalization and de-territorialization, has facilitated a call for English as a global language and English as a lingua franca, indicating the power of unity within language education; at the other extreme, however, a different voice having to do with “many languages” has emerged. The focus on many languages indicates a kind of “diversity.” Accordingly, the conference theme could be seen as echoing a call for “diversity within unity.” The ensuing question that we could ask should be: what is the implication of the totalizing effects of globalization for language education and studies in context of “diversity within unity? ” Let us know what you think and share with us your research.
